On March 3rd, 2025, High Commissioner Joseph Sokoine met with Mr. Robert Carter, Chief Executive Officer of the Coffee Association of Canada (CAC), to discuss potential ways for Tanzania to export coffee to the Canadian market, given that Canada is among the top importers and consumers of coffee.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner highlighted Tanzania's position as Africa's third-largest coffee producer, supplying domestic and international markets. He informed that the Tanzania Coffee Board (TCB), which coordinates coffee production and marketing activities, plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and sustainability of Tanzanian coffee.

The High Commissioner sought Mr. Carter's guidance on how Tanzania could more easily access the Canadian market through his Association, whose membership spans the entire coffee value chain, including some of the world's coffee-producing countries, coffee processors, packers, and Canadian wholesale and retail buyers.

In his rejoinder, Mr. Carter informed that CAC is ready to cooperate to formalise cooperation between CAC and TCB. TCB has to apply for membership. Once accepted as a member, TCB will be nominated to the Board, introduced to Canadian coffee buyers, and gain access to over 50 members of the CAC.

Other benefits of membership include receiving analytical reports on the Canadian coffee market and global market trends and giving online and physical presentations to coffee buyer members of CAC.
