On May 8th, 2024, High Commissioner Joseph Sokoine paid a courtesy call to the Executive Director of the Trade Facilitation Office Canada to discuss opportunities for collaboration to explore market opportunities for Tanzanian products in Canada. The other participants in the meeting were Ms. Vainess Mollel, First Secretary (Economic Affairs) from the High Commission, and the TFO Canada Program Director for Africa, Ms. Kristin Marinacci.

Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) Canada is a non-profit organization that aims to improve lives by creating sustainable trade partnerships for exporters from developing countries with Canadian and foreign buyers. TFO Canada assists small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and trade support institutions (TSIs) from developing countries in America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East to access international markets through information, advice, and contact services.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner and the Executive Director discussed various opportunities and challenges facing the developing world in accessing Canada's market, among other things.

It was also an opportunity for H.E. Sokoine to request that TFO Canada consider Tanzania in its future projects, which focus on capacity building for SMEs to meet international standards and eventually increase the volume and value of Tanzanian products in Canada.
